100 push-ups in 7 weeks

To go out of my comfort zone is something I need, thus I decided not to limit with Ironman only, and remembered my unfulfilled dreams from childhood - 100 push-ups and 50 pull-ups! Sounds great, hard to implement, good for health in general and some nice body relief as bonus - exactly what I need!

As it usually happens "bicycle" was invented before, and you just have to use it. So I found a training plan with the same name as my goal - "100 push-ups in 6 week", and started training... The idea is to increase load smoothly, interchange rest and training in the right way and demonstrate willpower. Add to it to my 3 month US trip, and you'll get perfect combination:

  • I travel without family, thus I'll have a lot off free time
  • US is well known by it's junk food, so I'll have to get rid of extra calories
  • Next summer/autumn I'm going to finish full Ironman distance

The conclusion is simple - I have to spend this time on sport, and push-ups are good candidates, together with pull-ups, running, cycling and swimming :). Man said, man did :)!

Lets start...

Week 1
Week 2
Week 3
Week 4
Week 5
Week 6
Week 7
Lap 1 Lap 2 Lap 3 Lap 4 Lap 5 Sum
Monday 10 12 7 7 >= 9, did 20 56
Wednesday 10 12 8 8 >= 12, did 25 63
Friday 11 15 9 9 >= 13, did 29 73
Weekend Final test:30 192

Generally can say that first week was easy. Probably this is because of running and pull-ups I'm doing in parallel, or simply it is only beginning. Won't guess, proceed to the next week.
Lap 1 Lap 2 Lap 3 Lap 4 Lap 5 Sum
Monday 14 14 10 10 >= 15, did 20 68
Wednesday 14 16 12 12 >= 17, did 20 74
Friday 16 17 14 14 >= 20, did 22 83
Weekend Final test: 27 225

Second week - according to the plan, but, as I'm doing push-ups and pull-ups on the same days of the week, I have to do the hardest one (pull-ups) in the morning and the other one (push-ups) in the evening. In the evening I'm tired, that's why my results are not so good.
Lap 1 Lap 2 Lap 3 Lap 4 Lap 5 Sum
Monday 14 18 14 14 >= 20, did 30 90
Wednesday 20 25 15 15 >= 25, did 30 105
Friday 22 30 20 20 >= 28, did 28 120
Weekend Final test:40 315

For the first time I'm not sure if I manage to do as many push-ups as plan requires. The only solution I see is to move push-ups to morning as well.
Lap 1 Lap 2 Lap 3 Lap 4 Lap 5 Sum
Monday 21 25 21 21 >= 32, did 30 118
Tuesday 25 29 25 25 >= 36, did 37 141
Thursday 29 33 29 29 >= 40, did 45 165
Weekend Final test:55 424

Week has started from fails. First I failed my my Sunday run by doing it much slower than I had to do, and than I failed with push-ups as well. Moving push-ups to the morning helped. Conclusion - everything hard and/or important has to be done in the morning!
Lap 1 Lap 2 Lap 3 Lap 4 Lap 5 Lap 6 Lap 7 Lap 8 Sum
Sunday 36 40 30 24

>= 40, did 42 172
Tuesday 19 19 22 22 18 18 22 >= 45, did 45 185
Thursday 20 20 24 24 20 20 22 >= 50, did 52 202
Weekend Final test:70 559

The longer each repetition the harder to keep myself in the right position. Have to work on my abdominal muscles.
Lap 1 Lap 2 Lap 3 Lap 4 Lap 5 Lap 6 Lap 7 Lap 8 Lap 9 Sum
Sunday 45 55 35 30

>= 55, did 55 220
Tuesday 22 22 30 30 24 24 18 18 >= 58, did 58 246
Thursday 26 26 33 33 26 26 22 22 >= 60, did 60 274
Weekend Final test:90 740

Six weeks of regular push-ups are behind. First attempt resulted in 90 push-ups, which means the finish is nearby. Will repeat the last week and try again.
Lap 1 Lap 2 Lap 3 Lap 4 Lap 5 Lap 6 Lap 7 Lap 8 Lap 9 Sum
Sunday 45 55 35 30

>= 55, did 59 224
